If you have a concrete floor in your garage, getting it coated should be at the top of your priority list.

A garage floor coating will protect your concrete from moisture, cracking, spillage, and UV rays, among other things. It’ll help you get more out of your garage floor, maintenance will be easier, and durability won’t be a concern.

There are two types of concrete coating that homeowners usually turn to – epoxy and polyurea. In this post, we’re going to tell you about some of the disadvantages of epoxy flooring. Keep reading and you’ll quickly understand that polyurea is the solution for all of your concrete flooring needs.

Not Durable Enough

Applying an epoxy coating to your concrete floors will give it more durability than a bare floor, but not more than polyurea. In fact, polyurea is about 20 times more durable than epoxy, so you’ll never have to worry about moisture cracking, or spillage ruining your coating.

Over time, your epoxy coating will start to chip and crack. Eventually, the coating will start to peel away and you’ll have to have another layer installed over top.

Slow Installation Process

This brings us to the installation process, which for epoxy, is undeniably slow and strenuous. First, your floor will need to be prepped to ensure that its suitable for a layer of epoxy. If the floor is uneven or cracked, you may end up with bubbles in your coating.

Beyond that, the actual installation and curing process could take up to 3 or 4 days all told. The conditions have to be just right for the curing to work properly. Epoxy also has harmful fumes that can irritate your lungs and eyes, so you’ll want to vacate the area for the duration of the installation.

A polyurea coating can be installed in a matter of hours. None of our coating systems take more than 24 hours to install and cure, so you’ll have your home back within a day. The installation itself can be done in temperatures ranging from -30 to 140 degrees, so you can have it done year-round.

They Don’t Look Amazing

Epoxy coatings all take on the same general appearance. If you’re installing a coating in your garage, that might be fine, but if it’s going in your home or you want your garage to look nice, it’s not cutting it.
